Job Purpose:
To ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, industry best practices, and internal HSE policies. The Safety Officer will promote a culture of safety on-site and support the implementation of the company’s safety management system, with compliance to the Safety Advisor Registration Scheme (SARS) guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote and maintain a safe working environment in accordance with SARS standards.
- Implement and monitor the site safety plan in line with company and project requirements.
- Carry out risk assessments, site inspections, and toolbox talks.
- Monitor and report on safety performance and compliance.
- Conduct incident/accident investigations and prepare detailed reports with root cause analysis.
- Ensure effective reporting, recording, and investigation of accidents, incidents, and near misses.
- Help in development, implementation, monitoring & improvement of NAFFCO Group environmental health & safety programs.
- Support emergency preparedness plans and facilitate safety drills.
- Participate in client HSE meetings and audits as required.
- Maintain the HSE documentation system and records in line with SARS requirements.
Qualifications & Experience:
- SARS Registration (Safety Advisor Registration Scheme) – valid and current.
- NEBOSH General Certificate, NVQ Level 3/4 in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role within construction, infrastructure, energy, or industrial sectors.
- Experience with ISO standards (e.g., ISO 45001) is preferred.
Other Requirements:
- Willingness to travel to various sites as required.
- Valid driver’s license (if site travel is required).
- Physically capable of site inspections and assessments.
